As per CA Article 17: Operation and Maintenance of Highways stipulates that,

The concessionaire has obligation to perform major maintenance of project highway. This maintenance includes the pavement resurfacing, repairs to structures, hardware, and other equipment.

According to Clause 17.1.1(d), the concessionaire’s duties include regular pre­ventive maintenance.

The CA calls for periodic repairs to start on the­ day after the 4th year e­nds and stop on the last day of the 5th year.

Further, the concessionaire’s obligations extend beyond routine maintenance. Which encompassing of following

  • Prompt repairs of potholes,
  • Pavement Cracks and other pavement distresses
  • Bridge Joints,
  • RCC lined and unlined Drains,
  • All high Embankments,
  • Major and minor Structures,
  • Road Pavement markings,
  • Highway Lighting,

Periodic Maintenance Work Program:  List of Documents and Data to be Submitted 

  1. Pavement condition survey reports of BI and BBD te­sts that show distress levels on the­ roadway. These tests we­re recently done­ on the project highway.
  2. The method covers the resurfacing, kerb raising, road marking, and earthen shoulder formation.
  3. The method statement addresses the issues of the following si.no. 4,5
  4. The settlement of ROB approaches,
  5. Cracked pavement defects, and rutting in corridors.
  6. Plans for resurfacing of main carriageways, service roads, bus bays, and truck lay-byes
  7. DBM, BC grade-1, BC grade-2, and SDBC mix designs are all required for approval.
  8. These designs will be for the renewal course of the main carriageway and service road.
  9. Also, slurry seal mix, is to rectify surface defects. This has to done as part of the preventive maintenance of the carriageway before overlaying it with BC renewal.
  10. The Barrow area has received approval for the use of aggregate and soil in bituminous mixes and earthen shoulder formations.
  11. The methodology aims to rectify various distresses on the carriageway.
  12. The renewal process involves the implementation of traffic diversion plans and safety measures.
